Education requirements
A solid educational foundation is critical for success in financial planning. The industry requires an approved finance degree by the FAS (Financial Adviser Standards).
Detailed information about the financial adviser standards and existing providers can be found here. Alternatively, you can qualify by completing additional financial planning industry studies if you hold a degree in a related field. We are committed to maintaining high educational standards to ensure our advisers provide the best advice to clients. If this sounds like your ideal career and you are unsure where to start, visit our website and start there. In the meantime, apply for a role with Watson Wealth through our Young Professional careers page and gain insight and experience while studying!
Professional year
Once you have completed or are nearing the completion of your approved finance degree, your journey to becoming a qualified financial planner includes a 12-month professional year across the industry, divided into four quarters. Each quarter is designed to develop your skills and knowledge progressively.
By the end of this year, you will be proficient in delivering high-level, compliant advice. This structured program ensures you are well-prepared to meet the demands of the industry.
FASEA exam
Ethics and compliance are cornerstones of our profession. You must pass the Financial Adviser Standards and Ethics Authority (FASEA) exam during your professional year. This exam tests your understanding of ethical principles, ensuring you can provide advice that is compliant and in your client’s best interests. Passing this exam is a key milestone to becoming a trusted financial adviser.
Authorised adviser
Upon successfully completing your professional year and passing the FASEA exam, you will become an authorised adviser at Watson Wealth. This qualification is a testament to your dedication, hard work, and commitment to excellence. As an authorised adviser, you will be fully equipped to offer expert financial advice and significantly impact your client’s financial well-being.
